Welcome

Dear Colleagues, Delegates, and Friends, the Local Organising and Scientific Committees, on behalf of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), the Federation of European Societies for Tropical Medicine and International Health (FESTMIH), and the Spanish Society of Tropical Medicine and International Health (SEMTSI), are proud to welcome you to the 15th. European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECTMIH 2027), which will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from 25 to 28 October 2027.

Sixteen years after Barcelona last hosted ECTMIH, we are delighted to bring this biennial gathering of scientists, clinicians, policymakers, NGOs, and global health practitioners back to our city.  ECTMIH 2027 will offer a high-level scientific programme designed to bridge disciplines and sectors over  four days at the International Barcelona Convention Center (CCIB).

Our overarching motto for 2027, “Refocusing on Global Health” comes at a pivotal moment. Shifting geopolitical priorities, defunding and resource constraints, accelerating climate change, and persistent health inequities demand a renewed, critical perspective. ECTMIH 2027 serves as an urgent call to action: a platform to reassess priorities, strengthen international cooperation, and focus attention on neglected areas across the global health landscape.

Central to the spirit of ECTMIH 2027 is equity, inclusivity, and mentorship. We are committed to ensuring strong representation from Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) and providing dedicated platforms for early-career researchers and students. We warmly invite younger colleagues to join us on 24 October for the ECTMIH Academy, a dedicated pre-congress day featuring hands-on workshops, peer exchange, and interactive sessions with world-leading experts.

We encourage you to explore the congress website, register early, submit your abstracts, and join us in shaping a more equitable future for global health.

We look forward to greeting you in Barcelona in October 2027!
